Deciding to start my own blog was one of the most liberating decisions I ever made. The freedom that came along with it alone is worth it. After starting/ completing the application process to other publications I realized I didn't have any published work. My blog started as a way to build up my portfolio, however now it's me taking charge and running my own publication. With writing this piece I hope to inspire others to venture out and start their own blog as well. I was really hesitant at first to start this blog, now that it is up and running I can never go back to a time before this/waiting on someone to validate me. Some of my favorite’s things about running my own blog are;
Micro Managing
When you are the owner of your blog you have more time to go out and live life and actually experience things worth blogging about! When you own your own blog you also have the freedom to blog virtually anywhere as long as you have a smartphone you can blog from anywhere using your phone. You can post as many or less log post as you would like.
It’s Therapeutic
Its therapeutic Not only for you but for others as well Ever have something heavy on your mind or have something you want to vent about? I find that blogging about it is a way to get it out of my mind. When I blog about something and then I have people comment or share it saying that they relate to me that’s a great feeling. That means that with my writing I not only helped myself but helped someone else.
Artistic freedom
Going the independent route always gives you freedom of speech. There is no censorship coming from anyone above you. You hold decisive power over your blog. You can talk about any topics that you want! If you want to swear you can! There is no censorship because you are truly the boss.

Always remember with freedom comes responsibility , that being said if you have been hesitant to start a blog or you've been procrastinating there is no better time than right now to start writing. Starting your own publication gives you a ton of work to put on display for your portfolio, it's a fun experience and you will learn a lot about yourself along the way. So whether you are starting your own blog is a way to build your portfolio or a way to starting your own empire get out there and do it.
