So far during my college years I have completed two Disney college programs DCP for short. Both times I lived in an apartment with 5 other women! This was a college environment with very close quarters so I got the chance to learn a lot about these women. I wrote this blog post to talk about the different kind of roommates we all experience during college.
Friend for life Roommate. Some roommates are just that roommates and after college is over you never see these people again, but sometimes you get blessed with a Roommate where after your program or graduation is over you two keep in touch! You guys visit each other in your home towns and you talk weekly! These are the Roommates who are your lifelong friends! You spent a very big part of your lives together and learnt a lot about that person and it made you two closer! Passive Aggressive Roommate We aren’t all so lucky to be blessed with a passive aggressive Roommate and maybe we were the passive aggressive Roommate! The passive aggressive roommate deals with things indirectly instead of addressing things head on! This person will do something and then post sticky notes or make snide remarks about it but never directly say anything about the situation! Once I was the passive aggressive roommate because I had male roommates who were constantly peeing on the bathroom floor. I posted a sign in the bathroom that read "if you sprinkle when you tinkle be a sweetie wipe the seatie”. That sign did not work there was still piss everywhere. I got tired of it and finally said something and that worked! After directly addressing the situation I finally got the pee to stop! Hallelujah!! I had a roommate who took out the garbage that was overflowing then left notes all over the house. Homesick roommate This roommate is someone who has never been to sleepovers, never went to summer camp, whatever the reason maybe they miss home. They may even have a significant other back home that they miss. They spend most of their time in the dorm facetiming various friends and relatives. You feel bad for them because they miss all the fun that college years has to offer but you also relate to them because of course you miss your folks too, you just go about things a different way. The Mom roommate The mom roommate is the responsible one. Our mom roommate was always decorating for the holidays like Halloween and Christmas! She cooked most of our thanksgiving dinner, which was bomb, and she brought a Tv with a DVD player and Hella movies! We all can appreciate the mom roommates because college or DCP can be a hard time away from home we miss our family, our dorm is ugly and dormy looking, we haven't had home cooked meals. The mom roommate fills this void she's your mom away from home! She also made sure we’re all safe when we went out to party! The rude roommate. This girl talks trash about every single other roommate, just overall rude in general. Only good thing about her is she’s neat. She talks about your other roommates to you and she talks to your other roommates about you. SHE cannot be trusted. Alcoholic roommate. This roommate is drunk every single day everyone is concerned about her and quite positive she should be attending AA Meetings. She wakes up drinking and finishes a bottle before she falls asleep. Dirty roommate. This roommate leaves their stuff everywhere always promising to get it later but after days someone else folds and gets it for her. If the shower is clogged it’s because of her hair. Dishes in the sink probably hers. Her clothes are all over the floor and her bed is never made. Queen of leaving things in the fridge for weeks until it molds. Literally your worst nightmare. The roommates that arent your roommate These people are in your dorm or apartment so much they are basically considered a roommate. They attend all the “family dinners” they put on money for the dorm Christmas tree and had presents under the tree. These friends are in your dorm even when you’re not there and you think they have a toothbrush in your apartment too. You roommate’s boyfriend. There is always one roommate where her boyfriend comes as a package deal. He’s at the dorm all day every day you looked in her closet to steal a cardigan and discovered all his clothes there. He contributes to household duties such as trash and killing rodents. It kind of works out perfectly because you kind of have a house Brother. Party roommate This roommate parties all the time, when she’s sick after work after church after class this roommate parties. You’re not sure if they learned anything in college but they had a good time. You’re also pretty sure they are getting kicked out of uni and it’s just a matter of time! Leave me comments telling me if I left out any roommates also let me know which roommate you were! I would love to get comments telling me about other topics you want to hear about in future blog post.

This blog post is going to be something I hope we all can relate to and I know we will. The 20 something are such a weird and wild time, half of my friends are getting married and having babies and the other half is so drunk they can’t even find their car keys. Ever pull up to the club VIP, gas tank on E, but all drinks on you? Ever been out at a club rent due, $ 7.28 in your bank account and then proceed to buy a $5 shot? Yea me too, welcome to the Dub Club.
The 20 somethings are like the trial period to adult hood it’s that weird time in life where you’re an adult but not really an adult. Trying to finish college find a career in your field, trying to date, find time to hang out with old friends it’s a lot. Dating is weird because we have this side chick wave happening, we have the tinder hookup wave happening and the other select few are all the ones seriously interested in dating. In your 20 somethings I’m sure there is one ex that you are still madly in love with still wondering what went wrong, pretty sure you will always love them. That’s totally okay and understandable it’s going to happen. You built a connection with someone fell in love with them, probably built a whole future in your mind only for the relationship to end. That sucks dude I know, but life goes onz That’s not always the case sometimes you have an ex that did you SOOO dirty you just feel like yooo fuck that kid for what they did, I know I have one of those to, but try not to let that change you. You may want to start a hoe phase or become heartless but just try to remain true to yourself. College is threating to kill you, you have 3 essays due, a test in every single class and your roommate keeps stealing your stuff. Your professor replies to your emails with one word. your professors are barely available for office hours, I know. When you finally graduate you struggle to find a job in your field because they all want you to have 3 years of experience when you literally just graduated last month, you hate the fact that after you have just submitted your resume the very next page asks you to list your work experience. You just try your hardest to find an entry level position to get the experience you need to get the bigger and better jobs. On the other hand, I have friends who graduated and found careers in their field immediately, don’t let that get to you to much you’re still doing good and trying your hardest. Let’s say you dropped out don’t feel bad college is not for everyone and you do not need a degree to be successful. the worst thing that can happen is when you must set your own doctors and dentist appointments, I still haven’t figured that part out and I’m just waiting until the pain goes a way no big deal. Walgreens is just around the corner.
Have you ever eaten "sleep " for dinner? Ever been so broke you just skipped dinner and went to sleep? Yea, me too. I go to the grocery store and I buy ramen and cereal! Free food is my motivation to go places. I never leave my house without asking will there be food there? Every time I go to my parents’ house I go grocery shopping in their pantry and fridge. Why are millennials addicted to chicken nuggets? It baffles me! A millennial girl will kill someone if she can’t get her chicken nuggets, I know a girl who is a vegetarian but she still eats chicken nuggets she said they were her exception! I thought that was so hilarious. Were obsessed with cute food we can put on our Instagram’s and hashtag blessed. When you’re 20 something the world hates you, the baby boomers love to blame everything on the millennial, they’re haters they’re jealous. Whenever I read a headline about the millennials ruining something I roll my eyes so hard they almost get stuck. So let’s say you’re 20 something and you just graduated college not everyone has the money saved to get their own apartment or buy a home so where does that leave us , back at home with the parents and as I wrote before moving back home after living alone is a struggle . This is where the depression and anxiety comes from. Depression and anxiety are on the rise half of us are too afraid to get help, won’t even talk about it peoples families aren’t there for them it’s a hard time. As far as my depression goes I just post memes about it, we all deal with things differently.
The LGBT community fights for their rights every single day and let’s not forget the striking about of black people being victimized by the police. Black women coming up missing, neo Nazis and white supremacist KKK members rioting right in front of our faces. NFL members getting fired for protesting the national anthem and their president focusing more on this than the natural disasters and climate change plaguing the world. The Latino community is literally getting deported and their rights are being stripped right from them. Imagine dealing with this while being 20 something. J Cole said there’s beauty in the struggle and I believe him, the beauty in the struggle is that it makes you appreciate the success even more. After all I want us all to stay strong and try our hardest to make it out on top, I know it’s all we want and we’ve come this far so why not go all the way. I know we all want to just skip this and start our empires already rule the world already but it’s coming I promise. I want to hear you guys in the comments tell me if you agree with me tell me what I missed. |
